A limited series of watches has been released by Komono featuring prints recreated from the works of Jean Michel Basquiat.
An american artist creating in New York in the late 70s and early 80s, Basquiat worked with graffiti, poetry, painting and music, often combining different media into single works and otherwise breaking categories by colliding dichotomies together. He quickly transitioned from being a young street artist with no home and barely any money to having solo shows, getting featured in Artforum, collaborating with high-profile artists such as Andy Warhol and David Bowie, and eventually wearing his Armani suits as painting smocks. He passed away in the midst of his success at the age of 27 in 1988. In each 2011 and 2012 Basquiat was the most coveted contemporary artist at the Sotheby's auctions, making the most in overall sales, banked at $80million.
Each of the watch straps from the Jean Michel Basquiat series has a unique printed fabric wristband depicting a different detail from one of six Basquiat paintings. No two watches are the same.
